20 Years, 22mins and counting.

I have now been on this earth for 20 years.. and counting. With so much that has happened throughout my years on this earth I feel that now I can reflect well on my future. From my early days as a child to my current state as a newly formed (we will see) adult I have gained what I wanted out of my life.

As i am currently at University, I see this as a massive step in my life. But whats my future going to behold? I know what I want it to hold, but my current master plan is down to fate.

Lets see what the next ten years hold for me? Hopefully I will find that special one combined with a good job and more good mates.

How not to photograph a band.

•December 7, 2009 • 1 Comment

Most people who are given the chance to photograph a famous band would usually turn up early, wear them smart jeans and smile throughout when meeting the band backstage… but this went all wrong for me when I recently took photos of Bombay Bicycle Club.

The band were performing at my University for a NME tour in which many students found out weeks before – because it was free! So i turned up on the night ready to go, I had everything sorted from my camera settings to figuring out the best locations for shots. Once i walked into the venue, something didn’t seem right… the place was completely empty! I had turned up to the venue over two hours early!

So here is where the night went wrong, there was a free wine function going on within the University for another event . As i was passing this function i noticed the sign “Photographers will be taking promotional photos at this event” i then smirked at the camera on my shoulder. I had my cover, now all i needed was my free wine. So six wine glasses later I was getting quite drunk, so i decided to drink more – just to pass the time.

After my eighth glass of wine and a bit of posh nosh i decided to carry out the job in hand – photograph this band! I got to meet the band first and i was drunk so I just said Hellllloooo – they seemed like knobs so i couldn’t care less of about their status.

So i started photographing the live performance, but I was so hammered by this point and making many mistakes from under or over estimating camera settings to not framing shots correctly. I just decided to press the shutter button and hope for the best! I took over 200 drunken photos that night and about half of them were good. This was my first ever job for the University newspaper and i totally failed the chance of proving myself by getting hammered – but it was a good night so i reflect on this as a very steep (and drunken) learning curve. Two of my photos were published (Including the one above of the lead singer)  in the second edition of the University newspaper!

PHOTOGRAPHY + CHEAP NASTY WINE = TERRIBLE PHOTOS! (BUT A FIT NIGHT)

Am i Dreaming?

Most of us have dreams, but at what point do we decide what is real and what is just a dream. Last night i had two dreams, but one just seemed very real. Even though the dream involved zombies, i still woke up to find myself thinking – was that real?

This was my first dream:
I was at a posh restaurant with my family enjoying a nice roast. Then there was a noise that came from outside the restaurant, then about ten zombies broke into the restaurant. I got my whole family up and demanded them to run to the car that was parked outside the restaurant. But in the car park i fell over and hurt myself. I screamed to my family “Just get home! I will meet you there!”. I then walked back to the restaurant and this manifested into my own home. I smashed though the door to find my dog in the back room. I then decided the best action was to wield the doors and windows shut to stop any zombies from entering the house.

After this work was done I sat down in a chair and watched good old “Static” TV. Shortly after my very exciting viewing time i noticed that my dog was at the front door scratching underneath it. She had somehow got herself under the door and now i could hear her whimpering on the other side. I shouted her name in order for her to come back, and she forced herself under the door – covered in scratches. Once she was back inside a zombie wolf came in and i was forced to stamp on the wolfs head to protect myself and my dog. After this we both went to the roof of the house to see thousands of zombies around our house. At this point i woke up with a urge to lock the door.

This was my second dream:
After my first dream i woke up then i got a drink and locked the door. The main reason i locked the door was not because of being scared – it was more to do with the possibility of my landlord coming around and my room being a total mess.

Within my second dream i awoke once again to get up and go to my housemates room. There were two of my housemates in the room moving a desk. One of my housemates said “Scott the landlord is coming over now!” at this point i panicked as my room was a right mess. I then heard a knock at the door – and there was the landlord as a zombie!

Smash.

Every meal is a battle in my house, it is down to one key part of my diet. I grab the packet from the shelf and i get hisses of hate from my housemates. This is down to the potato that i decide on – Smash!. Many would agree that normal mash potato is tasty, but as i found out last week – it takes a lot longer to make therefore affecting the overall meal.

My friend and I decided to cook together, i would buy the main course and he would buy the wine. The wine was not the best – £3.49 wine from The Co-op. But combined with my cooking skills and the scent of cheap wine, the meal was coming on well. This was until I informed my friend that i was going to cook Smash as a side dish to the main course. He was not very happy with this choice,  he was sickened! He decided to make his own mash with normal potato’s and it took about 20 hours! And my Smash was ready in seconds!

Summary:

Smash is potato being 93%  Potato and the rest is goodness!

Mash takes ages and tastes horrible!

Why oh why did i start a blog??

What am i doing? i said aloud after signing into WordPress for the first time ever. I don’t have that much time to be writing daily about the various things in my head, but I am sure I could spare a few minutes every week? Well the answers to these questions will be answered over the next couple of weeks, hopefully bringing a smile to my readers faces.

As you might have gathered by the name of my Blog – I am northern.  I hope most of the southern readers out there are sickened by this information, nonetheless it is a well known fact that the north is better then the south.

The southern people out there can be proud of what England’s future is made up of – but do you really think we could get here without the previous decades of work performed by the Northern workforce? Think of it like this:

The South is the Business – American Bankers?

The North is the Workforce – India!

My home town is Blackpool!
